Children are taught how to use the different items in the grooming kit and have demonstrations on techniques that are relaxing and beneficial for the horse. Plaiting and advanced grooming procedures such as pulling and clipping are also demonstrated and worked on. As always, safety is always at the forefront and riders are always reminded how to act appropriately around horses on the ground.
Knowledge of the benefits of grooming for the horse, as is the natural way, is gained as the child learns about the anatomy and physiology of equines. Children are encouraged to spend a great deal of time grooming as a pre-requisite to riding and generally to gain a valuable hands-on relationship with the horses.
